The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) requires that participants be enrolled in the student travel insurance policy contracted by the University of California (UC) on behalf of UCEAP as a non-academic condition of UCEAP participation in programs that require students to travel outside of the United States (“study abroad programs”).
All participants in UCEAP study abroad programs who are UC degree-seeking students will be enrolled automatically and the premium paid on their behalf for the duration of the international portion of the program. All non-UC students and eligible dependents of students must enroll in and pay for the premium directly with the insurance administrator. The travel insurance policy provides travel insurance benefits for students traveling outside their home country. It doesn’t constitute Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) and doesn’t satisfy the requirement of MEC under the Affordable Care Act. For more information, refer to www.HealthCare.gov.
