Key Facts

  • Your internship work schedule may vary depending on industry standards for your career field. Work hours are typically 10 am - 6 pm but may vary depending on the internship provider.

Businesses in Berlin are typically closed on the weekends (many shops are closed on Sundays). Some internship partners, particularly startups, may host evening events and expect you to assist. Workers in Berlin are generally casually dressed, so it's not necessary to wear a suit or other types of formal clothing.

Language

  • You can intern in English.
  • Most internships in Berlin are with international startups, and English is the working language; however, some sectors—particularly law, medicine, politics, and social services—require native-level German language skills.

Academics

You’ll take a course to guide your internship experience. To meet the course requirements, you may be required to participate in meetings, discussions, journaling, and a final project.

  • The internship can replace one course
  • You will receive a letter grade

Arrangements

You’ll work closely with CIEE to arrange an internship that fits your academic and career goals. After a pre-placement meeting, the on-site team will reach out to organizations that are a good fit. They then coordinate an interview between you and a prospective internship provider. You'll do most of this work before you leave.

After you apply to the program, you will receive more detailed instructions on how to set up your internship. Review the CIEE personalized placement process for more information.
