There are 10-15 projects typically available each year and 2-3 research positions available for each project. Some projects last a few terms, but some change quite a bit. Project information is released in December for the following summer.
Project Examples:
- 3D Printed Holograms
- Artificial Intelligence for Cancer Researchers
- Smart Knee Brace
- Design of a Digital Twin for a Smart City’s Water System and Security
- Prediction of Emergency Department Visits Using Search Query Surveillance
- Computational Drug Development Targeting Membrane Proteins

- Quantum Game Theory
There are also some projects available with topics in the humanities and social sciences:
- Exploring the Effects of Aging on Understanding Others' Minds
- Paul's Letter to the Romans Throughout the Centuries
- Digital Solidarity: How Social Media Can Deepen Local-Foreign Integration Between Students
Additionally, students have the option to initiate their own research project under the guidance of SUTD faculty. For this option, students need to identify a suitable faculty member supervisor, submit a research project proposal, and receive approval from SUTD.
Additional or optional coursework, internships, and research for academic credit are not possible on this program.
