Course Description

This lecture introduces and analyzes the different aspects categorized under social psychology. Some topics include social cognition, aggression versus prosocial behavior, group dynamics, and how attitudes develop and vary. Additionally, students will learn how to analyze different studies and theories and apply them to themselves and other real life scenarios.

Course Description

In this course we want to explore together how German music changes and which historical contexts are reflected in popular music. We will look at selected artists and songs from German music history and discuss their cultural and musicological meanings. The course deals with German music history and its most formative works. The focus is on the period from 1920 to the present. The aim is to bring together historical developments with their manifestations music and to discuss which changes, especially in popular music, can be identified and analyzed musicologically. We will look at compositions, song lyrics and historical backgrounds in order to gain an understanding of the developments that led us to the forms of contemporary German music.

Course Description

This course explores the grammar of German verbs - regular or irregular, separable or non-separable, active or passive, with or without prepositions. With verbs we live in different times, in yesterday and today, with verbs we also look into the future. But the verb also helps us to expand our vocabulary and make our style more versatile. The course is aimed at students who want to deepen their grammar knowledge and expand their vocabulary at the same time, based on the motto: (Almost) nothing works in the German language without a verb!

Course Description

This course introduces the various theoretical traditions and research fields of feminist political science. First, the heterogeneous field of feminist theories is presented (liberal feminism, radical feminism, socialist feminism through to intersectional, queer feminist and postcolonial approaches). Selected concepts and subdisciplines of political science are then discussed from a feminist perspective. Using the example of selected research fields, the previously introduced theoretical perspectives are subjected to critical reflection.

Course Description

In this project-based workshop course, the background and effects of topics related to environmental justice such as environmental racism, gender issues, disadvantage due to physical impairments and social differences in the city are examined. The discussion-based debate during the event is to be expanded by a media project in which a selected topic is creatively addressed.

You will not only learn about content expertise, but also different methods and the use of different media. This includes:

• Expertise in the meaning of environmental justice and the background and consequences of the prevailing discrepancies
• Expertise in the ecological foundations and ecosystem services in the city
• Different perspectives from different disciplines by working on topic-specific literature
• An ability to reflect on urban infrastructure through a combination of ecological and social expertise regarding environmental justice
• Discussion skills as well as presentation and moderation skills in interdisciplinary exchanges with other participants from different study programs
• Creative process of developing and implementing a media project from finding a topic to presenting the final result
• Scientific and fact-based development of a creative media project and formulation of socio-political demands and solution approaches in a project report
• Be able to apply learned specialist knowledge and critical considerations regarding environmental justice not only to urban areas, but also to transfer them to everyday living environments

Course Description

In this course we will explore the relationships between people, nature and space as well as the production and use of open space (e.g., changing interpretation and usage patterns in relation to the city and open space or the change in living, work and leisure) against the background of social development. Particular emphasis is placed on gender as an analytical category for spatial concepts and spatial actions as well the consideration of the interaction between theory and practice. That also includes current trends in spatial development.

Course Description

Drawing is closely linked to seeing; the line records perception. This free drawing seminar focuses on the joy of working with lines. It's not about exact depiction, but about experimenting with the line, with different drawing materials and formats, and the search for exciting image compositions. In practical exercises, we sharpen the eye and try out various experimental forms of expression. We examine questions about line, materiality, composition as well as figure and space.

Course Description

The language part of the course improves and develops skills and strategies to successfully handle uncomplicated oral and written tasks and social situations confronted during daily life in the German language area. From there the course moves to the first stadia of a higher level of understanding and discussing texts and topics in the cultural and social field. The cultural part of the course provides an understanding of various cultural aspects of German, Austrian, and Swiss society including German post-war cultural history and current topics of the German news. The classroom language is German. An Intermediate Low (IL) level of speaking and writing is required.
