Course Description
This course provides an overview of the voluntary and involuntary journeys, life experiences, as well as the general culture of Africans in the Diaspora. It discusses some of the surviving African cultural elements in the Americas, and analyzes certain cultural and political coping/resistance strategies. The course demonstrates the resilience of African culture as expressed in music, literature, language, religious beliefs, festivals, and art. It critiques some of the ideological bases for the various slave-trading epochs, and suggest ways of enhancing the African image within the global community. The course discusses notable contributions of the African Diaspora to the body of world civilization.

Course Description

The course focuses on the nature and purpose of international organizations as supra-national entities created by sovereign states for the management of their relations. It exposes students to the nature of the international organizations, types, features, organs, and their roles and importance and deals with the challenges that confront international organizations which inhibit their ability to achieve their aims. Students understand the nature and types of international organizations as well as their relevance to the management of the international system. Students identify and classify the international organizations according to their geographical spread and functional importance. The primary goal is to encourage students of International Politics to be able to understand why States decide to form organizations to assist them to manage relationships between and among them. Students interrogate the relevance of these organizations that serve as a vehicle of sustenance of global peace as well as obstacles that impede their functioning. They must be able to identify and explain the various types of international organizations and why they exist.

This course examines areas in the field of social psychology including definitional issues; strategies of inquiry: problems with social psychological research; social learning: the humanizing process; social perception: impression formation, social attribution; social motivation; the achievement motive and its practical implications; social cognition: cognitive consistency theories; interpersonal attraction; social attitudes: attitude measurement: attitude formation and attitude change; communication: persuasive communication; dissonance: concept, nature, effects; prejudice: its causes, consequences and cure or prevention; aggression: frustration aggression; and hypothesis: modeling of aggressive behavior and prosocial behavior.

Course Description
This course focuses on the decolonization and emergence of Africa in the world setting, foreign policies in selected African States, and Africa in the international regional groupings from Pan-Africanism to African unity. The course examines the role and image of Africa in contemporary global affairs, why Africa has become the hopeless continent, and how African countries are so differentiated that any talk of an African stance, personality, or African rule, has unjustifiable and unwarranted marginalization.

Course Description
This course provides an overview of languages in Ghana, within the context of the West African sub-region. It aims to give students a working knowledge of the genetic and typological groupings of languages spoken in Ghana. Issues of language development, language in development, and national language policy will also be examined. The course will also guide students to understand and appreciate the linguistic definition of language, the language situation of Ghana today, the functional allocation and co-existence of languages in Ghana, and issues of how language and society influence each other in the Ghanaian multilingual context.
