Course Description
This course provides insights into cross-cultural contacts and historical archaeology of Africa. The course presents how cross-cultural contacts have influenced the evolution and development of various traits of contemporary culture of Africans. They courses teaches how to use oral and archival data as well as historical linguistics as adjuncts to the archaeological record in the interpretation of the cultural heritage of Africa for the purpose of social and economic development.

Course Description
This courses focuses on issues of violence and abuse with a focus on both the victims and the perpetrators. Topics include theories of violence; childhood experiences, attachment, the bonding cycle, and how these impact behavior later in life. The course also looks at gangs, spousal abuse, child abuse and neglect, stalking and other types of crime currently prevalent in society. Some attention is also paid to treatment of victims as well as perpetrators of violence, and issues relating to prevention. Assessment: assignments (30%), attendance (10%), final exam (60%).

This course, the second part of the basic introduction to English Literature, follows through a selection of representative texts the development of English Literature from the Augustans in 119the early eighteenth century to the Age of Sensibility later in that century. It also introduces the student to the Romantic Movement in the early nineteenth century and the Victorians later in that century, and concludes with a selection of twentieth century writing.

This course covers basic drumming techniques of West Africa, particularly Ghanaian drum rhythms, focusing on Agbadza rhythms from the Volta region. Students learn to play main and supporting rhythms of the sogo drum, kidi drum, kagan drum, the axaste rattle, and the gakogui bell. In addition to drumming instruction there are descriptive lectures on the cultural, social, and religious uses of drumming in west Africa.
