This course analyzes Kim Jong Un’s summit diplomacy with South Korea and the United States as an approach to simultaneously pursue security and economic development. North Korea`s nuclear diplomacy with regard to the United States will be the core part of this course. The first half of the course focuses on Kremlinology, leadership analysis, and the succession of the Kim dynasty. In the latter half, historical reviews on North Korea`s foreign policy during the Cold War period as well as post-Cold War period will demonstrate how North Korea`s threat perception influences its provocative foreign policy. Then, the course moves to discuss influences of surrounding countries, namely, China, Japan, and Russia. Lastly, class discussions will be held on the future of North Korea, unification, and inter-Korean relations.

This course provides a study of the fundamental principles of advertising as well as practical experience as a practitioner in an advertising agency. It covers the role of advertising and promotion and their relationship to our media, economy, culture and marketing system. Topics include types of advertising, process of advertising development, consumer segments and targeting strategies, creative strategies, and media channels and characteristics. Students learn the campaign process, write campaign proposals, conduct consumer research and analyze market environments to obtain ad campaign insights, and make professional presentations.

This course investigates the cosmopolitan ideal in academic discourse as well as in everyday political and social life. It explores cosmopolitanism in relation to debates in political theory and international relations as well as dynamics surrounding international migration, transnational advocacy networks, and global governance. The course also examines the cosmopolitan perspective in relation to key global issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic, global climate change, economic inequality, nuclear proliferation and the challenges posed by resurgent nationalism and authoritarian populism.

This class analyzes language and gender issues in contemporary society. It looks at how gender issues appear in language, and how language affects these gender issues. Topics include feminism, performative theory, queer theory, gender theory, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, critical discourse research, and how gender-related phenomena relate to language. This course extends the concept "language" within a variety of perspectives, and applies the concept to human life and the universe. Thus, the course explores the universality of "information" and "communication" in many academic fields. It provides the basic understanding of human language - its structure in form and meaning, its nature, its way of existence, and its generative principles. It also explores the key concepts in more general contexts such as natural language vs. artificial language; symbolic systems and tools for encoding world information; [information structures in art/music and design; the patterns of communication in these "languages"; and the roles of human participants in the communication.

This course improves Korean writing skills using the composing of simple paragraphs covering various topics that arise in daily life, and then writing a longer essay by the end of the course. The course also teaches students how to complete various official forms, improve basic Korean writing skills, practice various genres of Korean writing, and develop Korean written communication skills.
