Course Description
This course provides students with tools for handling high-dimensional statistical problems. The course contains models and methods with practical applications, mainly for spatial statistics and image analysis. Of special importance are the Bayesian aspects, since they form the foundation for many modern spatial statistical and image analysis methods. The course emphasizes methods with applications in climate, environmental statistics, and remote sensing. The following topics are covered: Bayesian methods for stochastic modelling, classification, and reconstruction; random fields, Gaussian random fields, Kriging, Markov fields, Gaussian Markov random fields, non-Gaussian observationer; covariance functions, multivariate techniques; simulation methods for stochastic inference (Gibbs sampling); applications in climate, environmental statistics, remote sensing, and spatial statistics.

Course Description
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge in quantitative and qualitative methods. Special focus is given to GIS regarding both theoretical and practical aspects of its usage. This knowledge is then applied in exercises and in a final project work with a focus on urban and regional planning. In support of this work, students are introduced to planning within different social contexts as well as some of the preconditions, challenges and changes that are faced in accordance with aspirations of the sustainable development of cities and regions. Field studies and excursions are included in this module.

Course Description
This course covers the processes regulating states and flows of mass and energy in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system. The course emphasizes the energy exchange and water cycle. It also offers an in-depth overall picture of the system as well as the interactions between the various physical and biological processes. Students learn measuring techniques for relevant variables and parameters in an ecosystem. This knowledge is crucial for developing sustainable ways to manage land-based ecosystems. The course provides broad and advanced theory of the most important energy exchange processes in the interface between the atmosphere and the vegetation/land mass. In order to analyze the interplay between different processes within ecosystems, students use a simulation model of the energy exchange and the water-balance. The course also instructs students on how to use sensor technology and methods to measure and store abiotic and biotic variables and parameters using data logs and other instruments.

Course Description

This course gives an outline of the historical development of Swedish society from prehistoric times to the present. Important periods and developments, such as the Middle Ages, the Great Power Period, and the nineteenth century mass emigration are highlighted. Special emphasis is put on the twentieth century, including Sweden's security policy and the emergence of the welfare state. Specifically, Swedish political history is discussed in an international context (Scandinavian, European, American and Global). This course is a module within the SWEDISH CULTURE course.

Course Description
This course gives the student the opportunity to study specialized topics of their interest within an area of machine design that may not be covered by the traditional courses. For students from abroad, this course opens up the possibility to choose a project related to a course that they may not be able to participate in. Students may choose their own project topic or select one proposed by the supervisor or an outside company. Students are responsible for establishing their own timelines for the theoretical study part of the project, carry out their study independently of regular lectures, and prepare a final report on their findings/results.

This course presents the theoretical foundation of mechanical vibrations in multi-dimensional systems. The course covers applications that are directed towards machine and structural dynamics, vibrations in n-degree of freedom systems, damping mechanisms, gyroscopic forces, modal analysis (classical normal modes and complex modes), transfer functions, transient response, continuous systems, vibration damping, and vibration isolation. Applications include the numerical analysis of mechanical vibrations.
