The course provides an overview of the last 200,000 years of human history with a focus on diet and health and deals with different aspects of the relationship between mankind and the environment. The concept of transition is discussed with reference to osteological, archaeological, and historical source material on the Neolithic revolution, urbanization, and industrialization. To understand the population growth from a few individuals to 7 billion people in less than 200,000 years, the course employs an interdisciplinary perspective interweaving biological, social, and economic developments and climate change.

The course consists of an overview of the scientific literature on three interconnected topics: the nature of conscious and unconscious processes including different models of mind-brain interactions, variations in states of consciousness and unusual experiences, and psi or parapsychological phenomena such as ostensible telepathy and precognition in the laboratory and in everyday life.

The course covers the biomechanics and mechanobiology of skeletal tissues (bone, articular cartilage, tendons, and ligaments); the pathomechanics of injury, adaption, and degenerative changes with aging; how biomaterials can be used in loaded regions of the body; and an insight into current biomechanical research of skeletal tissues.

This course give a general understanding of Swedish political life, and to introduce students to political science research on various aspects of Swedish politics. The course covers the main features of vital political institutions, such as the constitution and the electoral system. This is accompanied by a discussion of political actors, such as parties, interest groups, and the relations between the state and society. In addition, the course addresses the orientation of public policy in certain areas, such as the construction of the welfare state, foreign policy and security policy.
