Course Description

This course introduces the central traditions in organization and leadership studies by covering the basic set of concepts and perspectives needed to analyze and understand organizational phenomena and make sense of challenges managers and workers might face. The following theoretical themes (among others) are included: motivation, culture, control, leadership, and organizational design. Furthermore, the course seeks to develop analytical (problem-identifying) and decision making (problem-solving) skills required to manage complex situations, as well as train students in argumentation and presentation skills. An important pedagogical idea of the course is to make sure that theories are applied to organizational practice. Case studies are the main tool to accomplish this. In order to address the complexity of organizational issues, various perspectives are adopted when organizational practice is discussed, and emphasis is put on reflective usage of theories.

Course Description
The course begins with an examination of the development of Swedish labor policy in general during the post war period. Particular attention is laid on the fundamental changes that have taken place from the 1970s onwards in the functioning of the labor market, the welfare system, and the economy as a whole. The change process is examined from the point of view of those most affected by it–immigrants, women and young people. In addition to discussing the Swedish phenomenon, the problem and the potential solutions are also compared and contrasted with similar situations in other European and North American countries.

Course Description
The course provides an overview of the post-communist development of the societies of Central Europe, i.e. Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. The key political and cultural tendencies permeating Central Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall are problematized and discussed, as is the question of the region's role as a potential bridge between East and West and North and South. A specialized component addresses the entry and development of the Central European states in the European Union. The states are studied comparatively at the same time as common lines of development are highlighted.

Course Description

The course reviews the most important principles and technologies in cellular and molecular neurobiology with a focus on understanding the methods used to increase our knowledge and be able to relate this to current research in the subject area. The course starts with an introduction to important methods for studies on molecular and cellular neurobiology, as well as basic practical exercises. The course also includes detailed studies of the mechanisms that underlie neuronal signaling and cell function, and how these are activated during development and neuronal plasticity. A central part of the course is the application of technologies that push the research forward, including optogenetic manipulation and gene editing to manipulate neural circuits and identify neural functions.
