Course Description
This course offers an exploration of the intellectual framework or public economics. The course discusses questions including should we encourage government intervention in the economy and on what grounds, what are the different instruments the government can use in order to achieve its goals and what should these goals be. The course builds on robust theoretical and empirical arguments, together with sound institutional analyses, in order to achieve an in-depth understanding of government reasons to intervene and ways of intervention. The course examines topics including government expenditure, deficit, and debt; education; social and health insurance; pension systems; taxation and progressivity; taxation incidence; optimal taxation; income taxation; consumption taxation; and inequality and redistribution. Students complete a written midterm and written final exam.

Course Description
The scope of this course allows students a thorough exploration of business analytics and how computational modelling can be combined with big data to achieve given industry goals. In the first part of the course, students are exposed to the fundamental theoretical and methodological basis, analyzing relevant quantitative and mathematical methods. In the second part, students review industry case studies. The course features guest presentations from industry data scientists and experts, showing students how innovative methods based on big data and information technology have solved modern industrial problems. The course discusses topics including the principles of machine learning, formulation of quantitative models via linear programs, the symplex method and duality, sensitivity analysis, network type problems, big data and lasso: the Dantzig selector, and industry 4.0 and descriptive analytics: business case studies. The course suggests students have completed a basic course on mathematics and a basic course on statistics as a prerequisite.

Course Description

This is an intensive intermediate Italian language course designed for students with a minimum of 3 quarters/2 semesters of previous Italian language (the equivalent of Italian 1B). Grammar is applied through exercises, games, communicative activities, written texts and oral monologues, role play and use of various media. Students express basic and more complex needs which enable them to communicate regarding a variety of topics. Students read texts and write descriptive and narrative texts. Grammar topics covered include: regular and irregular verbs in present, past, past perfect, imperfect, future simple and past and conditional tenses and learning to recognize the remote past tense; adjectives and indefinite pronouns; direct and indirect pronouns; simple and complex prepositions. Student performance is evaluated based on quizzes and a final exam. Texts include a reader provided by Bocconi.

Course Description

The course addresses the main approaches to the measurement of inequality and poverty, their main trends at the global level, and their fundamental determinants. For each topic the course discusses the relevant theoretical framework, the main measurement issues, and the available empirical evidence. The course discusses topics including trends in inequality and poverty including inequality, the financial crisis, and the great recession, and global trends in inequality and poverty.; measurement tools including the need for criteria, the transfer principle and other criteria for evaluating inequality measures, income distribution functions (Pareto, Normal, and Log-normal), partial ordering methods (stochastic dominance and the Lorenz Curve), complete ordering methods (the Gini index), and measuring inequality using STATA; topics in inequality including the top 1%: capital in the 21st century, the remaining 99% (skills, education, job polarization, robots, trade, and the rise of earnings inequality), migration and inequality, intergenerational inequality (where is the Land of Opportunity?); measurement of intergenerational income elasticity and rank-rank regressions, the Great Gatsby curve, and optimal taxation; and topics in poverty including poverty measures, anti-poverty policies (earned income tax credit and food stamps), and Universal Basic Income in  advanced Countries. The course strongly recommends students have a background in microeconomics, mathematics, and statistics, including basic concepts such as utility functions, derivatives, integrals, probability distribution functions, expected values, mean, variance, and other basic quantitative concepts.

Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of what blockchain is and how it works. It explores the transition from the accounting traditional ledger to a distributed one and describes how transactions occur under this new paradigm. Insights on how blockchain affect the future of industry and organizations also are covered. The course also covers aspects related to automation of assurance procedures and provides some concepts to develop a blockchain system. Finally, an introduction to the concept of the digitalization of assets and related contract automation which leads to Smart Contracts are discussed. The mission of this course is to introduce concepts and tools to understand the potential of blockchain technology in real world applications.

Course Description
This course begins with the concepts of “citizenship” and “non-citizenship” and then focuses on comparative citizenship, migration law, and the EU Asylum System. The main topics of the course are citizenship and cosmopolitan theories, rules on citizenship and the status of non-citizens in a comparative perspective, general rules on entry and admissions, right to asylum, political refuge and subsidiary protection, rights of unauthorized immigrants, EU citizenship, and EU Common Asylum System. This course also covers the interplay between the EU, the ECHR, and national systems as far as the protection of foreigners is concerned. The course includes a written and individual oral presentation in class, discussion and class participation, and a final written exam. The course strongly recommends that students have already taken courses in constitutional and European law as prerequisites.

Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the economics and management of business firms. After an overview of the main theories of firms, the course equips students with the main analytical tools used in managerial accounting. Then the course provides a comprehensive analysis of corporate strategic decisions. The course blends theoretical and analytical approaches with real-life insights and applications from the business sector. Students are encouraged to take an active part in the learning process. The course discusses topics including the structure and governance of firms, an introduction to business economics, theories of the firm and stakeholders and shareholders, agency and corporate governance mechanisms, financial statements, measuring performance through financial ratios, strategic analysis and managerial decisions, economies of scale and production capacity, economies of scope and diversification decisions, vertical integration, the competitive environment and market structures and industries, creating and sustaining the competitive advantage, organizations and values, organizational structures, incentives and organizational behavior, and leaders and top management teams. Course Description
This course is based on role-playing. Students take a specific role in their company and collaborate with the other managers in order to run the business, through Rialto, an online business game on global supply chain management. With Rialto students have a complete view of the relationship between supply chain decisions and company's results; they experience the complexity of functional versus process decisions and face competition among different firms and players. The business game develops over 12 runs (each run lasts 50 minutes) that correspond to 12 months of the scenario. In each run students have to take a set of supply chain decisions. Students complete assignments regarding strategy and performance analysis.

Course Description
This course examines the potentialities offered by omni-channel integration, mobile connectivity, social media, and big data in order improve the quality of interactions with customers and business partners, and to enable new approaches to product development by implementing open innovation activities. The course discusses customer empowerment and direct customer involvement into the core product development and commercialization activities through the Web. The course focuses on the emerging business models and their effective management, and considers the implications for both manufacturers and distributors, either in business-to-consumer or business-to-business markets. Attention is paid to both online pure players (e.g., Amazon.com; BravoFly.com) - whose main goal is to leverage the Internet to directly build customer value and brand value - and traditional companies (Ducati.com; IBM.com; Vodafone.com; Walmart.com) - which use technology in order to better leverage and integrate their activities. More broadly, the course analyzes the main opportunities and challenges emerging in the digital landscape, by exploring new developments in business and marketing management. The course consists of a hybrid of lectures, cases, and guest speaker sessions.

Course Description
An understanding of the rules governing international commercial transactions is a fundamental tool for professionals practicing in business-related areas. This course offers an in-depth introduction to the regulation of international commercial transactions. While the course focuses on technical legal issues, emphasis is also put on economic and political considerations affecting the regulation of international business. The course is divided into two parts. The first part explores international business transactions and covers the following main topics: international sales of goods and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods; the documentary sale transaction, commercial terms, and bills of lading and letters of credit; agency and distributorships; licensing distribution or production abroad, and technology transfer; franchising; foreign direct investment; shareholders' agreements; and mergers. The second part of the course examines international trade law and covers the following main topics: international trade, from the GATT to the WTO; GATT non-discrimination principles: MFN and NT; trade in goods (GATT) and trade in services (GATS), and exceptions from WTO free-trade rules; TBT and SPS Agreements, and TRIPs; WTO and Regional Trade Agreements; fair trade and trade remedies: dumping and subsidies; international protection of foreign investments; and EU Commercial Policy: CETA and future developments. Students complete a written finale exam.
