This course discusses the role of men and women in the Spanish Civil War. Topics include: background and possible causes of the Spanish Civil War; development of the conflict; gender relations during the war; women's presence and public participation; post-war society.
COURSE DETAIL
This course explores major Spanish literary movements of the 18th and 19th century including the Enlightenment, neoclassicism, romanticism, realism, and naturalism. Each lecture is dedicated to the individual work of the following authors and their contribution to Spanish literature: Friar Feijoo, Ignacio Luzan, Leandro Fernandez de Moratin, Tomas de Iriarte, Felix Maria de Samaniego, Jose de Cadalso, Victor Hugo, Mariano Jose de Larra, Angel Saavedra, Jose de Espronceda, Jose de Zorilla, Juan Valera, Pedro Antonio de Alarcon, Perez Galdos, Leopoldo Alas, and Emilia Pardo Bazan. A focus is also placed on neoclassical fabulists, pre-romanticism, romantic Spanish poetry of the 19th century, and post-romanticism.

This course provides a study of the elements, systems and construction processes of mise-en-scéne in film and television. Topics covered include: models, styles and movements; art design (lighting, framing, camera movements, artistic direction); dramaturgy and direction of actors; film editing resources; staging and sound space.
