This course examines the importance of identity and cultural characteristics that are involved in the function of society. It discusses tools to effectively intervene in social issues in different sectors of society at the individual, group, and community level and in rural and urban areas. Topics include: definition of culture; ideology and national identity; conceptualization of infiltration and cultural change.

The course examines the governance of a multicultural society. Topics include: modern societies as multicultural societies-- processes of migration and urban transformations; human rights and cultural diversity; visible and invisible forms of cultural discrimination; the queer perspective as an analysis of cultural diversity; controversies in functional diversity; migrations, diaspora, and exile as contemporary conditions; cultural hybridization.

This course examines historical, social, and political aspects of contemporary Israeli society. After analyzing the ideologies and groups that played a major role in the formation of Israeli society, class discussion focuses on social and political issues which are at the center of current debate in the country. The course discusses topics including the major social groups in Israeli society, key social and political issues in Israel and the positions of different political and ideological groups on these issues, Israel’s political system, and the character of Israel as both a democracy and Jewish nation-state.

This course provides a fundamental knowledge of important sociological theories and approaches in order to analyze current political and economic conditions. It introduces important societal conditions and issues of a political and economic nature, including social conflicts, political movements, finance, crisis, debt, work, consumption, integration, management, and organizations. The course presents sociological approaches to the analysis of these issues and encourages analysis and reflection on society at a local, national, regional, and global level, as well as considering the role of individuals or groups in society. The course focuses on working with different forms of empirical data as well as recent research literature.
