Addressing the Cost of Study Abroad
Choosing to study abroad is a big step and an essential investment for your student’s future. One of the advantages of choosing a UCEAP program is cost.
Total estimated program costs are publicly available on the Cost tab of each individual program and in the Finances section inside the UCEAP Portal.
Every program is assigned a finance accountant who is available to assist your student with questions about:
- UCEAP program estimates
- Program payments
- Financial aid disbursements
- Withdrawal fees
Financial aid can be packaged by a student’s UC campus for any UCEAP program—it's one of the benefits of studying abroad with UCEAP versus another study abroad provider.
The type and amount of aid a student is eligible to receive is determined by Federal Student Aid, Office of the US Department of Education, using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the student’s annual Cost of Attendance.
UC financial aid is transferred to UCEAP prior to the study abroad program’s start date. Students do not need to do anything to get their aid transferred—this is an automatic process—however, each UC has a unique timeline and may have delays in preparing aid. This means your student may need to cover some expenses, like airfare, prior to receiving their financial aid disbursement.
