Housing

During your stay in Rome you can choose to live in a private apartment or a homestay with a local host. Before departure, the study center abroad will arrange your housing for you based on your preferences.

Apartment

You may choose to rent one of the privately-owned apartments in separate buildings scattered throughout the city of Rome. Most accommodate multiple people per bedroom, and you may have up to seven roommates. Alternatively, you may choose to live in a shared apartment in one of several residence buildings throughout central Rome. The residence buildings accommodate multiple student apartments in the same building. All apartments have shared spaces like living rooms and kitchens. Some apartments have balconies, terraces, or gardens where you can enjoy the outdoors.

Commute

The best way to experience the sights and sounds of Rome is by walking to class. Depending on the location of your apartment, your commute will be between 5 and 40 minutes. You can take the bus, but official timetables are rarely accurate. Italians rely on their bus system but they never expect it to be on time.

Homestay

Homestays are located throughout the city and some will host more than one UC or international student. Your Italian hosts will have experience sharing their home with exchange students and can help you assimilate into the local culture.
