This course explores business finance law. Topics include: corporate finance law-- current outlook for financial markets; internal company financing; external company financing; financing small and medium enterprises (SMEs); financing technology-based companies and spin-offs; financing social enterprises.

This course provides a foundation in understanding and solving problems related to biomedical engineering applications of momentum, heat, and mass transport phenomena. Students are expected to have completed coursework in calculus and physics. Previous coursework in differential equations, fluid biomechanics, and numerical methods is recommended.

This course provides a study of English-language poetry, ideas, culture and literature created between 1730 and 1900. It provides a critical examination of the cultural, historical, and sociopolitical framework of literary and poetic works (Romanticism, the French Revolution and the British Empire) applying critical trends found within current literary theory, such as cultural materialism, new historicism, postcolonial criticism, feminism, gay and lesbian theory, and psychoanalysis. Topics covered include: nature and the rural world; rebel and subversive authors; revolutions, wars, and nationalism; Romanticism; the British Empire and the Victorian era.

This course on public policy analysis uses case studies to link theoretical analysis of public economic concepts with actual public policy applications. Emphasis is placed on the evaluation public policy, with step-by-step critical analysis of relevant empirical papers. Topics covered include: empirical tools of public economics; environmental and health externalities; education; social, unemployment, and health insurance; income distribution and welfare programs. This courses focuses on seven cities and moments in history where western culture has been especially significant for transformations affecting social and economic life. Each location includes a study of relevant philosophers. Topics include: Amsterdam 1650; Paris 1750; Jena 1800; Athens 400 B.C.E.; Vienna 1900; Berlin 1930; New York 1970.

This course examines different mass media theories and their related conceptual frameworks. Topics covered include: communication as a scientific discipline; mass media and popular culture; mass society and propaganda theories; structuralism, semiotics and the media; theories on long-term effects of media exposure. 

This creative writing course examines the concept of literary creativity through a critical analysis of narrative texts and essays. Through the study of the general structure and fundamental components of essays and narratives -- plot, narrator, character, setting, dialogue -- classes emphasize the process of writing and improving narrative works.
