This studio course focuses on issues and design considerations particular to printmaking. Students acquire specific printmaking techniques, skills and processes to gain competence in this hands-on medium. Students who successfully complete this paper should be able to: Demonstrate understanding of the use of form, texture, balance, weight, hierarchy and visual coding in art and design; Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and experimentation within the practice of printmaking; Apply exploratory thinking to generate ideas and creative works in response to project challenges; Competently utilize iterative printmaking processes to transform ideas into technically resolved outcomes; Source and utilise information in a variety of forms and contexts to support their process.

This studio course examines human-centred design processes to create a multi-dimensional response to a specific brief. Using a human-centred approach, students will negotiate the opportunities and tensions inherent in the design of services and experiences, offering original solutions that explore current paradigms (including the dynamic interplay of production and consumption).

In this studio course students explore and articulate issues and creative considerations through illustration. Students develop and apply techniques, skills and processes in the use of storytelling in their drawing practice. Topics: narrative theory to the relationship between creative work and audience; storytelling and narration; skills and processes of storytelling in the production of creative work.

This course examines the historical background of the different migrant communities which have made up New Zealand society and their relationships with each other. It covers the different experiences and perspectives of iwi, English, Scots, Welsh and Irish migrants and those from Europe and Asia arriving before the 1980s, and of new migrants since that time.
