About The Program

Madrid summers pulse with outdoor fairs, musical celebrations, and neighborhood festivals, making the city a living laboratory for exploring Spanish culture. This program offers an immersive academic experience through courses that examine Spain from multiple perspectives - from its culinary traditions and business practices to its artistic heritage and social dynamics. Courses blend classroom learning with hands-on experiences throughout Madrid. Participate in coffee house conversations, attend guest lectures, and discover the city's rich history through museum visits and guided tours. Your understanding of Spanish culture deepens through both structured activities and spontaneous encounters in this welcoming capital city. Positioned between France and Morocco, Spain provides endless opportunities for exploration. Both organized program trips and personal travel complement your studies. Tour Segovia, a picturesque Castilian town with a palace that likely inspired Disney's Cinderella castle. Take a day trip to Toledo, where Christian, Islamic, and Jewish influences create a fascinating cultural mosaic. Beyond class time, venture to the romantic regions of the Basque Country, Catalonia, and Andalusia to experience Spain's diverse landscapes and traditions.

Where you'll study

The UC Center Madrid is a hub for instruction, advising, and activities for multiple UCEAP programs in Madrid. It is located in Chamberí, a traditional Castilian neighborhood in the center of the city. The nearby 19th-century plaza and local market keep alive the Madrileño style of slow, relaxed living. You won’t see many tourists here. The locals are a combination of international students, people who have always lived here and would never leave, and young professionals who fell in love with the area and stayed longer than they intended. It’s the kind of area where locals will make an extra effort to get to know you. While the neighborhood is traditional, the UC Center Madrid offers modern classroom spaces, a computer lab, two multi-purpose study rooms for cultural activities, as well as ample common space to work on group projects and assignments.

TRIPS AND ACTIVITIES
