This course provides a study of main approaches and theories of international relations, and the evolution, processes, structures, problems and challenges of the contemporary global order. Other topics covered include: the international system (actors, structure, dynamics of cooperation and conflice), and the problems, dynamics and challenges on the international agenda (world governance, global terrorism, the international economic system, power and information society).

This beginning course provides an introduction to basic Portuguese grammar and conversation skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It covers simple phrases, nominal groups, determinants, pronouns, verbs (indicative, conditional, imperative, infinitive, past participle, and introduction to the subjunctive), and basic vocabulary.

This course provides a sociological analysis of the evolution and transformation of modern societies, based on various theories and interpretations of social change. It examines both specific and general theories of social change and social action; characteristics of historical sociology and in particular, problems encountered with compared methodologies applied in the study and explanation of social change; and the processes of social change, including concepts of social evolution, social movements and revolutions, the impacts of modernization.

This course offers a practical study of spreadsheet tools for the automation of tasks and data lifecycle management. Topics include: an introduction to the use of spreadsheets; structure of a spreadsheet-- book, sheets, and cells; working with cells and sheets; formula and references; tables and pivot tables; data visualization.

This course provides an interdisciplinary approach to ethical and legal issues stemming from recent advances in biomedical practices. Topics discussed include: fundamental principles of bioethics; the environment, animal welfare; informed consent, organ transplants, clinical trials; assisted reproduction, abortion, euthanasia; genetic advancements, intervention, and genetically modified organisms. *NOTE: Course is the same as PHIL/HLTHS 104, but taught in Spanish.
