Course Description
The course examines ASEAN economic and political development both historically and today, as well as emerging trends in political and economic development. It explores ASEAN economic and political development since its creation; relationships between political, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions of ASEAN, and examines causes and effects of ASEAN political and economic trends. ASSESSMENT: attendance (20%), midterm (25%), final exam (30%), final paper and presentation (25%).

Course Description
This course presents an intellectual history of Britain and America. It sets out to identify various historical events and considers how they have impacted upon the cultural and political trends that have emerged in both the US and Great Britain. While taking into account the different approaches of either country, some emphasis is placed upon those common intellectual trends which bind Britain and the US. The course also considers the way Britain and the US have responded to and have been influenced by some significant political and ideological developments in other parts of the world. Assessment: attendance and participation (20%), midterm (30%), final exam (50%).

Course Description
This course explores Thai society and culture through anthropological, sociological, historical, and cultural studies approaches. Emphasizing analytical and critical methods, the course reviews case studies from research completed by a variety of Thai and international academics. It covers the role of social institutions as bases of order in the society, as well as the factors that led to social change and transformation of Thai society and culture. Topics include Thai royalty and nobility, the King and Kingdom of Thailand, Thai political history and economy, Thai social structure, Thai identity and notions of “Thainess”, Thai popular culture, tourism in Thailand, and the Thai social values, attitudes, and patterns of living. Assessment: attendance (10%), midterm exam (30%), final exam (30%), final paper and presentation (30%).

Course Description
This course provides an introduction to intercultural communication, with specific focus on Thai language and culture. It examines approaches for communicating appropriately and effectively in Thai, both on and off campus, with emphasis on analyzing language rules and the role of culture in communication. Topics include identities and ideologies, beliefs and norms, non-verbal communication, stereotypes and discrimination, collectivism and individualism, high and low context communication, and the class structure. Students learn to converse in everyday situations through activities and field trips that encourage listening and speaking in Thai. Assessment: attendance and participation (10%), 10-minute presentations (40%), Thailand virtual tour presentation (25%), poster presentation (25%).
